“In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful”Sawm (fasting) is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is obligatory for all Muslims to fast during the holy month of Ramadan. It is during this month that the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Ramadan is a month of fasting in which Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset, during daylight hours and practice the art of self-control. Everyone has their eyes set on the Moon in anticipation of Ramadan.
The date on which Ramadan begins changes each year. It follows the lunar calendar which is based on the Moon. It is determined by the first confirmed sighting of the new moon. But there is often controversy about when it starts, with different countries observing it on different days. Now, when is Ramadan 2019? Muslims will observe the first day of Ramadan either on 6th May or 7th May of this year, depending region to region.
