The 4 Beautiful Stories Mentioned In Surah Kahf

Al-Kahf is the 18th chapter of the Holy Qur’an, entailing 110 verses.

Besides conveying the message that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala protects those who stand strong and adhere to righteousness, this Surah is charged with various virtues.

That is why Muslims are encouraged to recite Surah Kahf when seeking guidance from Allah (SWT) and also on the blessed day of Jummah.

To give you all the more reason to recite Surah Kahf with translation, here are the four stories beautifully embedded in this chapter that all Muslims should know about:

1- “Men of Ashab-e-Kahf” (Verse 9 – Verse 22)

The first story in Surah Kahf is about the young men of Ashab-e-Kahf. Their Iman was tested by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala when He allowed them to choose between their faith in Him and abandoning it for the sake of worldly life and desires.

2- “Two Men, Two Gardens” (Verse 32 – Verse 43)

The second story revolves around two men with gardens, and it distinguishes between a believer and a disbeliever. One of them portrays a rich man yielding a great harvest but with low faith in Allah (SWT). On the other hand, the other is a poor man yielding a lower harvest with a stronger faith in Allah (SWT).

And so the disbeliever says to the believer, “I am greater than you in wealth and stronger in manpower.” His ego knows no bounds as he also states, “I do not think that this will ever perish. I do not think the hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this.”

3- “The Men of Knowledge” (Verse 60 – Verse 82)

The following story is about Hazrat Khizar (A.S.) and Prophet Musa. While Allah (SWT) gifted Prophet Musa with great miracles, He also blessed Hazrat Khizr (A.S.) with unique knowledge. Therefore, Allah (SWT) asked Prophet Musa to seek Hazrat Khizr (A.S.) for guidance.

4- “Zulqurnain – A Just Leader” (Verse 83 – Verse 98)

The final story in Surah Kahf is about a leader named Zulqurnain. He’s a powerful yet just leader who ensures justice is prevalent under his reign. While his story is a brief one, it has several messages for all leaders.

Moreover, this story depicts Zulqurnain’s three journeys as follows:
- First journey: Verse 83 – Verse 88

- Second journey: Verse 89 – Verse 90

- Third journey and wall-building: Verse 92 – Verse 98

All four accounts covered in this chapter of the Holy Qur’an are set to bring us closer to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, boosting our Iman to a spiritual level.

With such inspiring stories to be read and understood, one should make it a habit of reading and listening to Surah Kahf with translation. Indeed, the Surah is a means to ensure our faith in Allah (SWT) remains indestructible, whatever the circumstances.
