Constructed in 1981 to serve the growing Muslim population of Seattle and the greater Puget Sound region, Idriss Mosque has become a familiar icon to both Muslims and non-Muslims across Washington State and throughout the Northwest. While its unique Arabesque architecture is well known, the true purpose of Idriss Mosque is to facilitate the religious needs of its members and community by serving as a centerpiece in the lives of Muslims throughout the surrounding area. Since its opening day over 25 years ago, Muslims have congregated in Idriss Mosque for the worship of God, to engage in social and cultural activities, and to exchange and gain knowledge. Visitors from all walks of life have left Idriss Mosque with a profound and more accurate understanding of Islam as a religion and the Muslims as its adherents.
