HCI wipes out the winter blues

There are five pillars of Islam. These five pillars form the foundation of a Muslim’s lifestyle shaping it into a productive one by helping keep a balance between the spiritual and material worlds.

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. Zakat focuses on giving what you have as excess wealth in charity so that people who are less fortunate can benefit from it and there is no accumulation of wealth. Islam places great importance on helping fellow Muslims, especially those in need of financial aid.

“And give the relative his right, and [also] the poor and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully. Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils, and ever has Satan been to his Lord ungrateful. And if you [must] turn away from the needy awaiting mercy from your Lord which you expect, then speak to them a gentle word. And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent. Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Acquainted and Seeing.” (Quran 17:26-30)

There are a lot of people around the world in need of our support however at times we find it difficult to reach out to them. This is where charities like the Human Concern International (HCI) come into play, getting your money across to people who are in dire need of it.

When good intentions and ideas are put to work, amazing things happen. In 1980, Human Concern International (HCI) came as a result of some Canadian Muslims who wanted to make a difference in this world, especially after the huge humanitarian need that erupted due to the hostilities in Afghanistan. Their goal was to help in whatever small way they could. Little did they know they were sowing the seeds for the first ever Canadian-Muslim charity, that would go on to deliver over $150 million in aid and help in over 43 different countries!

HCI is a Canadian, charitable organization existing "to help alleviate human suffering" by Investing in Humanity. HCI contributes towards facilitating Sustainable Development through long term development projects, and maintaining Human Dignity by providing immediate relief assistance to many poor and strife torn countries and to local causes in Canada. HCI's development projects have helped communities become more self-sufficient and the emergency assistance provided has helped communities in their time of need. They have provided financial assistance, health care, agriculture, human resources development, relief and public education. They are working with people all over the world through regional offices and local partners to get the aid across to people who are deprived of the basics of life.

Around the globe HCI is sponsoring nearly 3000 children. You can also be a part of their mission of helping others. For as little as $1 a day or $30 a month, you can change the life of a child by sponsoring him/her. Your sponsorship will provide medical, educational and other basic needs to the child up to the age of 18 years. You can donate online to sponsor an orphan. To donate, you can visit their website here.

Currently, they are running their Winter Relief Campaign. While winters might bring joy for us as we sit in the comfort of our homes layered in sweaters, all cozied up with heaters around us, many people are not this fortunate. Many people do not resonate the same way with winters. For them it equals to torturous nights as they have to spend night after night wearing tattered rags without a proper roof over their head. HCI, with your help, tries to make lives easier for these people by providing them with the warmth and love they deserve. Your single donation can make the life of a person shivering in some other part of the world much better and alleviate his pains. Before the start of this New Year, make a resolution to help others out and donate as much as you can.

So are you ready to help the less fortunate out?
